“The first pastor of this church was the missionary Fr. John Mc.Guire. For those times Playa del Carmen belonged to the island of Cozumel, and all parish matters directly dependent on the Parish of San Miguel Archangel on the island. After the Capillita became dependent on the Parish of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Cozumel, and Pastor there was Fr. Juan Amezcua, LC who would later be responsible for building the Parish of Our Lady of Carmen.”
