In September 1865, Bishop James R. Bayley laid the cornerstone of the new church. Constructed of brownstone quarried in nearby Little Falls and built by the hands of its parishioners, the third St. John the Baptist Church was officially dedicated at the end of July 1870. The original stained glass windows reflect the German origins of the parish, which was founded as St. Joseph’s in 1889 to accommodate the overflow from the huge Passionist St. Michael’s Monastery nearby. When the Passionists closed St. Michael’s in 1982, St. Joseph took on St. Michael’s name as well. (Source)

I visited this church early in the day and I couldn’t go in because there was setup happening for some event. I returned later in the day and a wedding was taking place. I was still able to visit and take pictures — participate a little bit in the soon-to-be-married couple’s joy!

I had the opportunity recently to visit this church again. The last time I was in there, I didn’t have a very good camera. It was a little dark inside the sanctuary but that was fortuitous as the stained glass windows really come through nicely. - Luke

The Hindu Temple and Cultural Society of USA Inc. (HTCS) was established in September of 1989. Our Temple was designed by Indian Temple Architects (Sthapati) according to ancient Indian Temple building codes and was inaugurated (Kumbabhishekam) in 1998.
